Born and raised in North
Sydney, Cape Breton, with parents native to Newfoundland, Roy can be
considered a traditionalist of the band as he was raised on Cape Breton
and Newfie tunes. Music is
an integral part of Roy's life. Family, friends, and neighbours were
often up for a jam session at the Way home. Harry Hibbs, Dick Nowlan,
John Allen Cameron, and Stan Rogers are artists Roy considers
influential in the development of his own style. Audiences quickly
recognize Roy's love of a good time and before you know it, the entire
place is having a ball.Surrounded by a musical
family, whose talent and love for music is well known around his
hometown of Rexton, New Brunswick, Dave's love for music has always been
and still is a big part of his life. Playing at may gatherings and jams
with uncles, cousins and friends honed Dave's performing skills and it
shows when he brings the kitchen party to the stage. Playing guitar and
singing lead/harmony vocals for years in several local bands and
community events has made the stage a comfortable place for Dave to be.
Now living in Fredericton, New Brunswick with his young family and
playing with Bottoms Up is as Dave says, "Just what the doctor ordered."
The progressive style of the Maritime Traditional/Celtic music keeps the
house party of the old alive and well. Happy to be surrounded by his
away from home musical family and with those familiar sounds of solid
music and harmony, all Dave can say is, "Thank You and Bottoms Up!"A native Bluenoser, Bob
watched as many of his family made their living from the sea. This along
with tight family ties moulded Bob into a true east coast Maritimer.
Music was always in the Slaunwhite home as night after night the
guitars, harmonies and other instruments were brought, bringing to life
the music of artists like Hank Williams, Hank Snow, Johnny Cash and John
Allen Cameron. It wasn't long before Bob and his brothers were jamming
and teaching everyone who came to be friends with them to play guitar.
Bob loves the stage and considers the gift of performing an honour. He
looks forward to creating many fond memories and stories to pass on to
his children and grandchildren.Stuart was raised in Oromocto, New Brunswick where he dedicated much of his time learning
percussions instruments. Buying his first guitar paved way to learning
an assortment of instruments including bass guitar. Stu quickly learned
a variety of music styles…everything from country to rock n' roll.
Artists such as The Eagles and the late John Denver have influenced his
music. Having played in a rock 'n' roll band with Bob for years,
co-founding Bottoms Up provided the opportunity to play traditional
Maritime music on a regular basis. Music comes naturally to Stuart. He
loves the lively atmosphere playing creates and the thrill it brings.Erin began her musical
adventures learning classical violin in elementary school. Once her
grandfather introduced her to fiddle music, she really began to develop
her talent. He took her to her first "fiddle" lesson when she was eleven
and immediately she was hooked. She has experimented with various styles
of music and is grateful for her classical training, but the alluring
sounds of traditional Celtic, Irish and Scottish fiddle are something
she cannot escape. Her style is her own. Her music has put her in touch
with many other Maritime musicians who share her interests and
enthusiasm. Many an hour has been spent sitting toe-to-toe with friends,
learning new tunes or coming up with ways to rejuvenate old favourites.
Erin is delighted be performing with Bottoms Up.Originally
from Nova Scotia, Dave now resides in Moncton, New Brunswick. Dave grew
up around music and it was inevitable that he would end up on stage. He
has been playing guitar and singing for over 30 years and has been part
of many, many popular bands in the Maritimes throughout the years. He
has also been on several recordings doing harmony vocals along with some
radio commercials as well. Dave has been called a musician's musician.
He takes his music seriously and won't settle for anything but the best
and it shows when you hear him sing & play. The stage is second nature
to Dave and he loves the fact that he can now play in a band with his
long-time friend Stuart and his brother Bob. As Dave puts it "...such a
pleasure.....it's wicked fun".
